Arrival in Dubrovnik

We arrived in Dubrovnik on Thursday, August 19th at about 7 pm. Our flights from LAX to Frankfurt and from Frankfurt to Dubrovnik all went as planned. The long flight from LAX went smoothly - except for having to wear a mask THE ENTIRE TIME. This was our first experience in business class for a European trip and it was definitely worth it!

We met up with Mike and Amy in Frankfurt and our plan was to arrive at the Excelsior Hotel, go for a quick swim in the Adriatic, and then have dinner at the hotel at 8 pm. We were here at this same hotel two years ago and loved it, so it was nice to be back here again.

We all love the food here in Croatia. Of course, it makes sense to eat the fresh seafood whenever possible. For dinner, we had the fresh local sea bass and fresh vegetables on the side. Mike ordered some great Croatian white wine that was similar to a Sauvignon Blanc. Then I ordered a glass of Croatian red wine. This turned out to be a really interesting experience. The red wine was from a region called Dingacz and it was absolutely fantastic. The red wine from this region comes from a grape called 'Plavac Mali' and we learned that this is the most common and popular red wine along the Dalmatian Coast. If I had to compare it to another red wine that I have had in the past, I would have to say Grenache or maybe Syrah. It was nothing like Cabernet, Merlot or Pinot Noir.
