Sipan Island

After we left Dubrovnik on Saturday around Noon, we headed for Sipan, one of 1,100 beautiful islands here off the coast of Croatia. On the way there, we stopped in a cove area to swim and have lunch. Our Chef onboard is named 'Billy' and he is a 23 year old Frenchman. We can't believe he is only 23 as he seems so mature and is able to create amazing meals! Here are some photos from our lunch on this day. We started with an appetizer of Langostine, followed by a main course of Sea Bass with Zucchini. 


And, of course we have to have some nice French wine to go along with lunch . . . 



And there's always dessert . . . 


After lunch we headed to a cove just off of Sipan where the plan was to anchor in the bay for the night.

After dinner, we headed for bed. The next morning, we woke to a beautiful sunny day and spent most of that day swimming, stand-up paddling and relaxing in the beautiful bay. This was a great day for us to all get acclimated to the new time zone so we could be ready for the adventures ahead.

The only wrinkle on this day was the fact that Palmer and Susan got a SPEEDING TICKET in the first five minutes of their first jet ski ride of the trip. Turns out the speed limit was 6 knots and they may have been going (a very reasonable) 10 knots when the police boat spotted them!



Though I was a bit rattled about receiving a citation in a foreign country, we all had a good laugh about it and the price tag turned out to be a fairly reasonable, but not insignificant $100 US dollars.

Throughout our time here in Croatia, we have been sampling the local wines whenever possible. Though we didn't come anywhere close to arriving at a full understanding of the depth and breadth of Croatian wines, we did learn a few things that I want to remember the next time we come here. Hvar

 On Tuesday morning we had a quick breakfast and headed out for a morning hike in Korcula. Susan and I headed up into the hills above the town and through a small park. It felt great to get some exercise and fresh air to start the day . . . After our hike, we got back to the boat and departed for Hvar . Our Captain calls Hvar 'The St. Tropez of Croatia,' so we were excited to see it.  On the way to Hvar we had some white wine and local Oysters . . .  We arrived in Hvar in the late afternoon and decided to go walk around the town. It was very busy and there were LOTS of other yachts parked in the marina. It really did feel a bit like St. Tropez as there were lots of fancy restaurants and gift shops. The next morning we got up and went for a long walk along the Hvar waterfront.

Miljet Island, Veliko Jezero Lake and a Visit to the Benedictine Monastery

 Visit to Miljet, Veliko Jezero Lake and the Benedictine Monastery on St. Mary's Island The next morning, we woke up to beautiful sunshine and spent a few hours swimming, Stand-Up-Paddling and relaxing in the beautiful bay off of the island of Miljet. After breakfast we took the speedboat onto the island of Miljet to the town of Polace, where we had rented bikes to ride around a small lake on the island. This was really a highlight as the weather was perfect and the island is just gorgeous. We took a short boat ride on the tender to the town of  Polace  on the shore of Miljet. The plan for our bike ride was to ride all the way around Veliko Jezero Lake, which was only about 8 miles. After our ride, we took the ferry to St. Mary's Island to visit  The Church and Benedictine Monsastery . The ferry ride was short and beautiful.
